Proximity Log is an automated location based time tracking solution that tracks your time spent at multiple locations. Proximity Log works in the background so once you identify a location to track, you can forget about the application until you want to view your visit history.
Tracking is done with minimal impact on battery life by taking advantage of the advanced location technologies included in iOS 7. In addition to tracking specific geographic locations using GPS sensors, Proximity Log can also track time spent at micro-locations or indoor locations by tracking your proximity to a bluetooth low energy sensor or iBeacon.
Benefits
Do you need to track your time for work or clients, but dont have accurate records when it is time to submit your time card? Is the manual effort required to track your time at each client reducing your billable time? Are you a “Quantified Self” fan who wants location data in a format that you can import into other applications?
Proximity Log can save you the time and effort of trying to track this data manually. Proximity Log will track your time spent at various locations and allows you to view location based analytics in the application or export the data for further analysis.
Features
- Automated Time Tracking for up to 20 locations that you specify
- Runs in the background with minimal impact on you battery
- Receive optional notifications when you "Check In" or "Check Out" a location automatically
- View Enter and Exit Times as well as the Visit duration for each location
- View related analytics to track the time spent and number of visits by Day, Week, or Month
- Export your data to a CSV file for offline analyses
- Share your data with people close by using Airdrop or via eMail or iMessage
- Configure the size of the geographical location to be monitored
- Configure the identifiers (UUID, Major, Minor) to monitor a micro-location using an iBeacon
- Test how close you are to a Beacon using the Radar on the Beacon Settings screen
Micro-Locations
Beacons are bluetooth low energy devices that can be used to determine your location indoors or at close range. They emit a radio signal that your phone can detect when it is within close proximity to the beacon similar to the way a boat uses a lighthouse to determine if it is too close to land. Beacons can operate for over a year on a coin cell battery and are cheap enough that it is cost effective to place multiple beacons in a location to generate new types of analytics. Proximity Log will work with multiple third party Beacons that support Apples iBeacon protocol by configuring unique identifiers for the beacon in the application.
Requirements
Requires iOS 7.0 or higher. iBeacon tracking requires Bluetooth 4.0 that is supported by the iPhone 5S, 5C, 5 and 4S. Location Services, WiFi, and Bluetooth should be enabled to track location effectively.
Battery Life Impact
Tracking is done with minimal impact on battery life by taking advantage of the advanced location technologies included in iOS 7. If you already have Location Services, WiFi, and Bluetooth enabled, Proximity Log should use very little incremental battery life because it leverages the same location technologies that iOS uses for many system services.
